Muddle Through Mummy – Parenting bCreator of the Year 2024

At the bCreator Awards 2024 Daisy Woods, known online as ‘Muddle Through Mummy‘, accepted the Award for Parenting bCreator of the Year. As a winner, Daisy was invited to join the bCreator Committee (our panel of judges) for the ITV bCreator Awards 2025.

We caught up with Daisy post-Awards to find out more about her content creation journey as a parent…

How do you navigate sharing parenting content while maintaining a level of privacy?

I have very clear boundaries when it comes to what I share online. I only share what I’m comfortable with and never feel pressurised to share more than that. I am very considered with what I do share and if someone asks something I’m not happy to answer (because let’s face it, we’re all nosy and want to know the nitty gritty of our favourite creators’ lives) I will be kind and firm is relaying those boundaries. I’m very lucky though and my amazing community have always been incredibly loving, supportive and understanding in respecting my privacy and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

What have been some of your favourite moments in connecting with other parents through your platform?

I’ve been very open about my struggles with intrusive thoughts and postnatal depression online and when I share my very raw experiences I am always floored at how open my followers are with me in return. I have had some incredibly emotional and transformative conversations in my DMs in particular where other mums have told me about what they’re going through and that my content has encouraged them to speak up and seek help too. Knowing you have helped someone in some small way in their darkest hours is a feeling I can’t put into words. But those moments have certainly  been some of my most rewarding in my social media career to date.

What advice would you give to new parents overwhelmed by social media portrayals of parenthood?

There’s a quote which says something like “not everything that is good is good for you and not everything that is bad is bad for you” and what I mean by that is to ignore the noise and only take what you want from what you see online. You may feel that 99% of what you see isn’t for you, doesn’t align with your parenting style or approach or simply wouldn’t work for your family or lifestyle. But that 1% is what I think of as the ‘golden nuggets’ which might just make your day a little brighter, whether that’s a simple cleaning hack, a new approach to try for your child’s challenging behaviour, a craft idea, easy recipe or budget family trip to recreate; that’s why I like to share such a variety of content on my pages because there’s something from everyone but not everything is for everyone.

How has being a creator influenced your own parenting approach?

When I first joined TikTok during lockdown, life felt incredibly overwhelming; I had a toddler and a newborn and my husband was still working more than full time during the pandemic. It was a lot wasn’t it? I know so many parents felt that, I saw it online for sure.

Social media opened my eyes to gentle parenting, an approach I was naturally leaning towards but never knew it was a ‘thing’ really. It was certainly very different to my parents approach growing up though and when things got much, I felt myself defaulting to that; being a ‘shouty mum’. And that’s not the type of parent I want to show up as for my kids!

It led me to training with the Positive Discipline Association and becoming a Certified Positive Discipline Parenting Coach and running online courses for other parents who were struggling too. That’s not to say I’m now ‘fixed’ or some ‘perfect parent’ now because everyone has hard days and I still have to make a conscious effort to continually keep showing up as the type of parent I want to be but it’s certainly changed my parenting approach to say the very least.

Are there any aspects of parenting you’d like to spotlight more in your future content?

There’s so much I’d like to do in the future. A lot of women feel they lose themselves in motherhood, it’s a tale as old as time and definitely something I have experienced and still struggle with massively. You know you’re able to show up as a better parent when you’ve filled up your metaphorical cup a little but you feel guilty for taking time away from the kids, or spending any money on yourself. It’s a balance I’m still trying to strike but a journey I’d love to take other parents on with me.
